When navigating through space or communicating with Earth, satellites rely on their electronics to operate flawlessly. Sellectronics in Cornwall delivers just that – high-quality products which work continuously in harsh environments and mission-critical situations. As one of the most advanced electronics manufacturers in the South West, Sellectronics highlights just how well Cornwall’s space manufacturing capabilities measure up on a global scale.
Sellectronics manufactures printed circuit boards and assemblies (PCBAs) for Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM) in the space sector. Involved in everything from early-stage prototyping to full assembly, their products – which include navigational gyroscopes and RF communication devices – are the kind of critical components where failure simply isn’t an option.
Sellectronics have already seen incredible success, with their products operating exactly as intended in several real Low Earth Orbit (LEO) missions, and now the business is projected to grow to £8m turnover in the next three years, with an ambition to grow beyond £12m within six years.
Armed with a track record of reliable performance in space, demonstrating both its technical excellence and rigorous quality systems, Sellectronics is continuing to develop its capabilities at the cutting edge of electronics manufacturing.
Over the last 2 years Sellectronics have invested £1.5 million in new equipment and facilities. With the support of the Good Growth and Shared Prosperity funding, Sellectronics says the business has been able to continue to punch above its weight – acquiring equipment typically only found in much larger operations. This includes Automated optical inspection, State-of-the-Art Pick and Place machines, and automated store kitting cabinets. Their team is now looking beyond LEO applications, towards GEO and deep space missions, where electronics requirements become even more exacting.
Sellectronics has also recently opened a second factory unit, creating twice as much manufacturing space as before. By the end of 2025, this new facility will be fully operational, providing significant additional capacity for the team.
Advanced equipment is only as effective as the people operating it. At Sellectronics, the entire team is trained in relevant qualifications from the Global Electronics Association. They also receive job-specific training in areas like CIPS, CAD, and Six Sigma, equipping them with the diverse skillset needed to excel.
The company’s commitment to developing talent extends to the next generation. Sellectronics now enrolls a new apprentice every year, creating a pipeline of skilled workers. Their first apprentice has just completed his qualification and has already been promoted to a junior engineer role – tangible proof that opportunities to develop and grow with an ambitious business do exist in Cornwall. And evidence that Cornwall can offer high-value career pathways that retain young talent in the region.
Sellectronics says being part of the Cornwall Space Cluster has been transformational; introducing them to new customers, helping them to tackle skills shortages, and developing their national brand – something they didn’t have just two years ago. The team says they’ve also benefited directly from this highly proactive community, through regular cluster meetings and participation in trade shows across Europe.
The cluster has also enabled practical collaboration, enabling Sellectronics to partner with other local companies to support bids for UK Space Agency and European Space Agency projects, as well as Defence and Security Accelerator initiatives.
Working with local companies like this has helped progress the advancement of technology across the county, creating an ecosystem where collaborative success benefits everyone.
In January 2025, Sellectronics was awarded SME Manufacturer of the Year by Make UK, the largest manufacturers’ membership organisation in the country. This national recognition validates both Sellectronics’ excellence and Cornwall’s emergence as a serious advanced manufacturing hub. It demonstrates how far their team has come in just a few years – from a capable regional manufacturer to an award-winning national exemplar.
Sellectronics will be a significant part of Cornwall and the South West’s manufacturing future. From its award-winning facility, the team is sending electronics into orbit, training the next generation of engineers, and proving that one of the most exciting manufacturers in the country can thrive in Cornwall. Their success demonstrates that when you combine talented people, strategic investment, and a supportive collaborative network, you can build a world-class electronics manufacturer that competes globally – from a regional base.
